The Southern California College of Optometry, previously the Los Angeles School of Ophthalmology and Optometry, located in Fullerton, started 1904 and is one of the oldest optometry schools in the United States. The private college offers a Doctor of Optometry degree through rigorous education in classes, and through various clinical rotations to teach students in a variety of areas. The SCCO also has 16 different postdoctoral residency programs, a variety of vision research, and continuing education courses to keep optometrists up to date. In fact, one of the requirements for graduation is a research project.
