Inter American University School of Optometry
The Inter American University School of Optometry, located in Puerto Rico and founded in 1982, has been offering students with a desire to learn about optometry, to experience a different style of teaching through bilingual instructions in classes. The majority of classes and clinical are in Spanish while text, tests, patient records, and other forms are in English. One of the expectations the school has for its students is to be able to fluently speak Spanish. The College of Optometry has a class size of around 60 students, and for the class entering the 2011 there were 53 students enrolled. The Inter American University School of Optometry does not require applicants to have a Bachelors degree, but requires at least 90 semester hours from an accredited institution that fulfills the prerequisite course requirements; 54 semester credit hours, below. There is also a minimum requirement of an overall GPA of 2.5 and a prerequisite GPA of 2.5 as well. The minimum average for the OAT score is 200, but changes depending on the national average score.
