Midwestern University Arizona College of Optometry (AZCOPT)
The Midwestern University Arizona College of Optometry (AZCOPT) located in Glendale, Arizona, was recently established and was granted the pre-accreditation classification of "Preliminary Approval" by the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education. The school’s first term was Fall of 2009, with a class size of around 50 students. The 4 year Doctor of Optometry program is similar in presentation, with the first and second years introducing students to concepts that include visual science, diseases, introduction to clinicals. The third and fourth year students get more intensive; especially with clinical rotations to help students diagnose and treat ocular diseases, experience a wide range of vision issues, and work in a variety of settings. TuitionThe tuition for Arizona College of Optometry for the 2009-2010 academic year was $27,500 for the 4 year O.D. program. Education RequirementsThe AZCOPT does require applicants to have a degree, with a BA acceptable, but preference given to a BS. Along with the degree, applicants must complete all prerequisite courses, which include lots of basics like Biology with lab, Inorganic Chemistry with lab, Organic Chemistry with lab, Biochemistry, Physics, and Calculus and have a passing grade of at least a ‘C’. The school also has minimums for cumulative GPA and prerequisite coursework GPA set at 2.75 on a 4.0 scale and Academic Average, and Total Science standard score set at 300. Admissions Checklist
