Residency Description:

The residency program in Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation seeks to attract highly qualified optometric graduates and to provide them with advanced knowledge and concentrated clinical experience in all aspects of brain injury rehabilitation including: the vision care of patients with neuro-degenerative disease, patients recovering from traumatic or other acquired brain injury, and patients with other special needs; the evaluation, management, and co-management of binocular vision anomalies; the evaluation and management of multiply-challenged patients of all ages; and the evaluation and management of patients in need of low vision rehabilitation. Residents who complete the program are expected to provide an advanced level of clinical care in neuro-optometric rehabilitation.

The program is designed to aid the resident in acquiring the advanced clinical skills and knowledge required for the diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of vision deficits in patients with acquired brain injury (ABI). The resident will provide comprehensive clinical care of patients with neuro-degenerative disease, patients recovering from traumatic or other acquired brain injury, and patients with other special needs. The resident will be an integral part of the interdisciplinary management of these patients and will interact with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals. Additionally, advanced clinical training in the management of binocular vision anomalies in patients of all ages, care of multi-challenged children and adults, and low vision rehabilitation is provided. The residency achieves this goal by combining patient care with a series of didactic lectures and research. The resident will interact with an outstanding clinical and graduate faculty. In addition, the resident will participate in the emergency call service.
