Residency Description:

The mission of the Residency in Cornea and Contact Lenses is to provide advanced clinical training for post-graduate optometrists, allowing residents upon completion of the program to pursue professional opportunities which require a high level of clinical expertise in the area of cornea and contact lenses, such as academia, industry, and specialty private practice. The residency is 53 weeks in length with the resident being allowed 10 days of approved educational leave. The resident will examine, diagnose, prescribe and manage a substantial number of patients during the year. The resident will utilize virtually all contact lens designs and materials in both a primary care and specialty/referral context. The program is unique in that the resident can participate in a variety of external rotations during the year, including VisionAmerica of Birmingham.
