Pediatric Optometry Residency
A pediatric optometry residency provides primary care and special vision needs of infants and children through education and training. A resident will still be involved with the primary care of people of all ages, but more emphasis is based on pediatric optometry. Residents can expect clinical training in diagnosis, management, and treatment of routine eye problems, as well as special cases involving infant's and children's vision, strabismus, amblyopia, binocular vision, non-strabismic binocular vision disorders, vision related learning problems, visual perception, and visual therapy. Residents may learn different age appropriate screening and testing methods, as well as various treatment options from medication to visual therapy techniques, for the different visual conditions and diseases. Residents will gain experience and education through hands on clinical training under supervision from a diverse group of professionals and participation in many events like class lectures, training of students, didactic seminars, and plenty of others. Graduating optometrists who like to work with children and have an interest in pediatric optometry, are more fit for these residencies as a majority of time is focused on vision care for children and infants.
