Residency Description:

This residency program provides advanced clinical training in primary optometric care in a multidisciplinary environment. Extensive interaction with attending physicians, students, fellow residents and ophthalmology facilitates a truly unique learning experience, as well as a superlative opportunity to interact with other members of the health care delivery team. Direct optometric patient care is combined with clinical supervision of third and fourth professional year students to round out the resident's optometric clinical education. The residents also participate in journal clubs, Grand Rounds lectures, classroom teaching, and informal conferences with students, faculty, and residents in other subspecialty areas. Completion of a literature review and an original scholarly paper are required prior to completion of the residency.

Each of the primary care positions offer specific exposure to specialized sub-disciplines within optometry. While all of the residencies are primary care based, they provide a special emphasis on either ocular disease, cornea and contact lenses, pediatric optometry and binocular vision, or geriatrics and low vision. The resident spends approximately 60% of the time in primary care, with the remainder spent in various aspects of either optometric subspecialty.

1 Primary Eye Care with Cornea and Contact Lenses
1 Primary Care with Low Vision Rehabilitation
3 Primary Care with Ocular Disease
2 Primary Care with Pediatric Optometry/Vision Therapy
