Residency Description: This residency program provides advanced training in the primary optometric care of pediatric patients, as well as in the specialty areas of infant vision, binocular vision, strabismus, amblyopia, visual perception, vision therapy and pediatric eye disease. The resident participates in direct patient care as well as in clinical supervision of fourth year optometry students. This program offers the resident the opportunity to provide full scope optometric care in a multidisciplinary setting. Residents work with physicians, educators, psychologists, and other professionals in a diverse assortment of clinical and educational settings. This is achieved through rotations through various clinics and service providers. The residency stresses the health care team approach to patient care management. Didactic experience will include seminars, case conferences, laboratory teaching, research, and the completion of a scholarly paper or case presentation for publication. The intent is that the resident will be prepared to apply the knowledge and skills gained from this residency to the varied types of practice now within the health care system.
