Low Vision Rehabilitation Residency
A low vision rehabilitation residency strives to teach residents advanced skills and knowledge that will allow them to diagnose diseases like glaucoma that can lead to vision loss, treat low vision problems through therapy, adaptive tools, and counseling, and manage patients with vision impairment from detection of diseases to treatment. Patients will range from average problems to those with low vision or diseases that are leading to vision impairment to those that are already blind. This means that residents could see patients who have neurological disorders, traumatic brain injury, or a number of other conditions and diseases that can lead to vision loss. Residents deal with patient care through examination and coordination with aspects to help the patient by working with physicians, social workers, vision therapists, occupational therapist, psychologist, and other professionals. Like other residencies, there is a mix of clinical training, supervising, didactic offerings, and plenty of areas to learn through both ways. This residency offers extensive experience for handling vision loss in many aspects.
