Geriatric Optometry Residency

A geriatric optometry residency is designed to train optometrists in advanced clinical concepts and methodology, through hands on training and education processes that deal with the aging process and its effects on the eyes. Residents can expect to deal with more elderly patients and exposure to eye related issues that come with aging including loss of vision, presbyopia, and cataracts. Clinical training under supervision offers residents experience in diagnosis, co-management of eye diseases and better information towards finding the best treatment options. Residents are exposed to interdisciplinary settings including hospitals and specialty facilities that are designed and prepared for dealing with geriatric patients. Residents may also be asked to supervise clinics, teach classes, do presentations, and have numerous opportunities to show their knowledge in a group setting.
