Residency Description: The BVA/TLC Resident splits his/her time between BVA Advanced Eye Care and TLC Laser Eye Center in Tulsa. Typical patients include ocular disease consults from referring optometrists and primary care physicians as well as peri-operative care of surgical patients while at BVA and refractive surgery consults and peri-opertive care of Lasik patients at TLC. The residency program begins on July 1 of each year and is a 12 month program concluding on June 30 of the following year. Expected weekly hours of duty are 40 hours per week plus some on-call duties. Call is shared between the optometry resident and staff optometrists and ophthalmologists. The resident covers call about every third week at BVA with a back-up physician available for consultation. Attendance of continuing education and research may lengthen the weekly hours of duties.
