Fellowship Description:

The glaucoma fellow will have the opportunity to participate fully in the management of both private and county hospital patients. There is ample hands-on training in the latest surgical techniques; the surgical workload is such that each fellow will have completed approximately 125 to 150 cases as primary surgeon and another 300 to 400 cases as assistant over the year.

The hospitals associated with the glaucoma fellowship are University Hospital - St. Paul, Parkland Memorial Hospital, John Peter Smith Hospital, Children's Medical Center at Dallas, and the Dallas Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The two fellows will spend time on the glaucoma service at the county hospitals of Dallas and Tarrant Counties (Parkland and John Peter Smith) as well as with the four preceptors who have busy private practices. Private clinics generally see around 25 to 30 patients per half-day. They clinics have state-of-the-art equipment and excellent ancillary support.
