Fellowship Description:
The University of Illinois offers a one year funded clinical and research fellowship in uveitis. This fellowship offers experience with both medical and surgical management of complex ocular inflammatory disease. On occasion we also offer a second, unfunded position.
Uveitis fellows learn how to diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions, including scleritis, acute and chronic anterior uveitis, intermediate and posterior uveitis secondary to sarcoidosis, toxoplasmosis, syphilis, Behcet's disease, Vogt-Koyanagi Harada disease, serpiginous choroiditis and many other entities. Special emphasis is placed on medical and surgical therapy. The fellow will learn how to manage immunosuppressive therapy with agents such as methotrexate, azathioprine, cyclosporine, alkylating agents and biologic agents. The fellowship training also includes experience performing complicated cataract surgery and placement of intravitreal drug release devices.
All uveitis fellows are expected to participate in at least one research project and submit a manuscript for publication.
