Fellowship Description:
The glaucoma fellowship is a one-year clinical position that includes some clinical research effort. The fellow works closely with two faculty members on the glaucoma service, Drs. Allen Beck and Anastasios Costarides, who are located at the Emory Eye Center.
The fellowship program emphasizes the development of expertise in all phases of the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma. The glaucoma fellow has a variety of clinical responsibilities that include seeing referral patients at the Emory Clinic and participating in their surgery. The fellow also provides supervisory and teaching support for the residency program, both in the operating room and in outpatient glaucoma clinics at Grady Memorial Hospital and the VA Medical Center. Increasing responsibility for glaucoma surgery—including filters, shunts and cataracts—is provided throughout the year.
